Andy 'Admiral' Kasrils
Andy Kasrils is a British/South African Film Director and Screenwriter who is best known in South Africa by his nickname 'The Admiral'. He has worked in South African music and media since the 1990's. He was born and grew up in London, UK, his family were South African political exiles.
He is the selector of African Storm Sound System which played their legendary Thursday night dancehall session in Johannesburg for 25 years. His partner and MC is Jahseed from the Afro-pop music group Bongomaffin. Andy hosted a reggae radio show on Voice Of Soweto community station which ran 1995-1998. He co-hosted the Raggatak radio show with Jahseed on YFM 99.2 from 1999- 2022. Andy reviewed movies on TV for the Phat Joe Show from 1999 - 2004 on ETV and SABC1 channels and wrote/directed movie themed comedy skits for the show. In 2011 he co-hosted 2 seasons of The Admiral & Akin Go To The Movies on DSTV Mzansi Magic channel with his friend, film director Akin Omotoso. The show focused on African cinema. He has appeared in many South African productions including acting in the international Emmy winning TV series Sorted on SABC3. In 2008 he wrote and directed a short Super 16 action comedy film for SABC1 called Miss Sgodiphola featuring musicians Senyaka, Jairus Jakarumba and Pitch Black Afro. Big Nunu's Little Heist is his debut feature film.
